Next Week's Featured Question

From  Paul Allison  via  https://twitter.com/youthvoices

What would a K-12 MOOC have in it? What connections would it nurture? Would teachers codesign it with students? Do they exist?

I liked how K12Online revisited their content with the "Echoes." The recording (about 20 min) was replayed and then the speaker was available for questions for the rest of the hour.

FB is blocked in schools . . .

Hi Valerie :-) Great to see you :-)

FB is blocked in some schools, though I don't know if it's all that great for curation. Though I guess that depends on whether we're talking curation vs. archiving. You can go back through previous posts, but you mostly have to do that scrolling through the timeline which is sorted based on activity, which can be difficult

I love the one hour length of Teachers Teaching Teachers. It takes awhile to get people introduced before the topic gets rolling but it's always a great conversation!

Hey @Peggy.
Archiving is kind of like structure where fostering is about engagement, no?
Though I guess fostering also has a structural demand
13 hours ago
@Jason ... good point
@Jason, maybe Edmodo, blogs. wikis or Schoology would be better for curating

Maybe turn the question around. Why do you have audiences? What are the listeners' goals?
I'm thinking like a twitter hashtag, though Twitter tends to kill older tweets so you have to archive it through other means, i.e. TAGS, storifiy

I often go back to ETT archives to find old conversations and resources shared. Just last week I searched for our earlier Earthcast conversations and discovered that some people I am still connected with and learning with/from were part of those early conversations back to 2008-2009. :-)

Nice that John could join us with 3 minutes left

I'm still thinking that fostering is based on building or choosing a platform that will be able to continuously engage the participants, but archiving is about giving the participants a way to tag conversation and providing an updating aggregator that will outlast the course.
And ideally, when someone goes back and interacts with a tweet, Dave Cormier gets an update to let them know that someone has used the word MOOC without his permission

Chatwing and Titanpad both provide great opportunities to review links/resources before a conversation. :-)

You can create VT but not delete VT for free. So I just change the pics and delete the comments . . .
