 21:28:36  cheryloakes show 73 -> -EdTechTalk: peggy, i remember using the print option and turned into a pdf on a mac

 21:29:36  PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: So it can be saved as a doc and attached to an email. I guess you could then upload it to something like Scribd and get an embed code to place it on your blog.

 21:29:56  cheryloakes show 73 -> -EdTechTalk: sure give it a try i use the print to pdf a lot

 21:30:03  stephieand -> -EdTechTalk: This goes so well with the new (ish) sets of graphic novels we are getting at school.

 21:30:05  trossman -> -EdTechTalk: Is there a way for students to import their own pics/characters?

 21:30:12  cheryloakes show 73 -> -EdTechTalk: hi brian grenier, getting ready for a necc presentation?

 21:30:32  cheryloakes show 73 -> -EdTechTalk: good question trossman, i will ask

 21:32:21  cheryloakes show 73 -> -EdTechTalk: thanks deb barrows our new marketing person

 21:32:32  WickedDecentLearning -> -EdTechTalk: Here's a related link on how to understand graphic novel style reading.

 21:32:44  lloydcrew -> -EdTechTalk: I did a round about way I am sure...I emailed a copy to myself and took a screen shot of it and saved as a jpeg

 21:33:04  cheryloakes show 73 -> -EdTechTalk: that is a good way to do this lloydcrew

 21:33:05  trossman -> -EdTechTalk: The kids might like to create their own jpegs out of their drawings  and import ...

 21:33:16  sarah h -> -EdTechTalk: Toodoo www.toondoo.com lets you upload pics and put cartoon bubbles on them.

 21:33:25  cheryloakes show 73 -> -EdTechTalk:  hi again brian, do you have an idea for a NECC steal a white board presentation?

 21:33:33  WickedDecentLearning -> -EdTechTalk: http://www.choiceliteracy.com/public242.cfm

 21:33:38  sarah h -> -EdTechTalk: and then sort of strips them

 21:33:40  cheryloakes show 73 -> -EdTechTalk: @sarah, thanks, that is a good one

 21:33:42  trossman -> -EdTechTalk: Love this comic idea for vocabulary

 21:33:50  briangrenier -> -EdTechTalk: I'll need to think about that one

 21:34:07  cheryloakes show 73 -> -EdTechTalk: I want to share makebeliefcomix and bubbleshare

 21:34:15  KarenJan -> -EdTechTalk: @lloydcrew -sent you a private chat - did you get it?

 21:34:30  PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: Wish we had that last statement as a quote-student's voice and recognizing the power of the voice in confirming theselves--he said it SO well!

 21:34:59  lloydcrew -> -EdTechTalk: another example  http://tinyurl.com/3znoft

 21:35:06  stephieand -> -EdTechTalk: I tink that the rphic novel is HUGELY important!

 21:35:08  WickedDecentLearning -> -EdTechTalk: Given the rise of ability to create with multimedia, is there a decreased need for text-based communication skills?

 21:35:16  debbarrows -> -EdTechTalk: @cheryl - are you looking to borrow at white board at NECC?

 21:35:28  stephieand -> -EdTechTalk: Companies are using them to sell products to our kids...

 21:35:42  cheryloakes show 73 -> -EdTechTalk: more like hijack one on the blogger cafe floor, but I could use yours???

 21:36:05  PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: @wickeddecentlearning- I got an error message on your link-could you repost it?

 21:36:12  stephieand -> -EdTechTalk: they are going to read them, so... why not make it a graphic novel about MLK? Homer?

 21:36:17  sharonp -> -EdTechTalk: @WickedDecentetc... I think we are realizing now that the written-text-based has been given too much of an advantage in the past

 21:36:37  cheryloakes show 73 -> -EdTechTalk: hi sujokat!

 21:36:40  debbarrows -> -EdTechTalk: @cheryl contact the companies - they are very good about loaning them out

 21:37:37  sharonp -> -EdTechTalk: @James.Sigler - and yes, so it should be - represents our students' "real world"

 21:37:58  stephieand -> -EdTechTalk: It validates that people take in information in different ways, no one way is the best way.

 21:37:59  JenniferW -> -EdTechTalk: @sujokat -- Excellent -- we are glad you are here!!!

 21:39:04  stephieand -> -EdTechTalk: They are in the HISTORY section at Barnes and Noble (not the comics)

 21:39:27  James.Sigler -> -EdTechTalk: What about using a simple graphic novel as a storyboard for a planning a video

 21:39:42  lloydcrew -> -EdTechTalk: @KarenJan no, but don't know where to look...having a hard time multitasking here!

 21:39:45  PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: visualizing is such a power learning tool!

 21:39:49  WickedDecentLearning -> -EdTechTalk: Graphic novels are GREAT for the storyboarding a video

 21:42:49  JenniferW -> -EdTechTalk: Or -- if we decide to do a NING -- it would be so simple

 21:42:50  PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: @JenniferW-maybe one of your next global online projects should use makebliefscomix :-)

 21:43:04  JenniferW -> -EdTechTalk: @PeggyG -- we can also add that to Prince Caspian

 21:43:07  cheryloakes show 73 -> -EdTechTalk: ning would be really simple for uploads and joining huh

 21:43:17  debbarrows -> -EdTechTalk: Maybe a reasonn to start the NING

 21:43:17  JenniferW -> -EdTechTalk: Smiles -- Yep, I think so Cheryl

 21:43:30  stephieand -> -EdTechTalk: I would also like to see some of the thought process of the teachers who are creating these projects for kids

 21:43:31  JenniferW -> -EdTechTalk: I have wanted to -- but wasn't sure we should -- maybe it is time??

 21:43:31  cheryloakes show 73 -> -EdTechTalk:  like we need a reason!

 21:43:36  JenniferW -> -EdTechTalk: Let's do a POLL Cheryl

 21:43:47  cheryloakes show 73 -> -EdTechTalk: sure next week?

 21:43:53  WickedDecentLearning -> -EdTechTalk: Bill, what comics or Graphic Novels have you read that influenced you?

 21:43:54  PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: YES! That would be great! You do such a great job of incorporating new tools into your projects to help people learn to use them with students :-)

 21:44:02  trossman -> -EdTechTalk: Love NING!

 21:44:35  JenniferW -> -EdTechTalk: :)

 21:44:48  stephieand -> -EdTechTalk: I also would love to know if the kids send us in defferent directions than what we thought we were going to do with their learning. :)

 21:45:10  James.Sigler -> -EdTechTalk: I may try this out with my afterschool tech club tomorrow

 21:45:25  cheryloakes show 73 -> -EdTechTalk: stephieand, Bill is addressing your thoughts, he wants to show kids working on his site

 21:45:36  PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: @James.Sigler--great! Blog about it. :-)

 21:45:40  cheryloakes show 73 -> -EdTechTalk: James, they will love it, I have used with gr. 3-8

 21:45:58  stephieand -> -EdTechTalk: THAT would be COOL!!

 21:46:24  James.Sigler -> -EdTechTalk: I'll blog about it after we do it

 21:46:27  dgoodman -> -EdTechTalk: the voices would be a great ad on

 21:46:31  cheryloakes show 73 -> -EdTechTalk: stephie look for his story prompts

 21:46:51  lloydcrew -> -EdTechTalk: This has been great to have a group of characters to choose from...the kids don't get bogged down with the drawing and it allows them to get to the writing.

 21:46:54  cheryloakes show 73 -> -EdTechTalk: http://www.billztreasurechest.com/

 21:47:09  PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: What an inspirational angle to the use of these visuals!

 21:47:10  cheryloakes show 73 -> -EdTechTalk: http://www.billztreasurechest.com/blog/archives/2008/03/index.html

 21:47:13  dgoodman -> -EdTechTalk: @lloyd  I agree...

 21:47:45  stephieand -> -EdTechTalk: Very Useful!

 21:48:07  stephieand -> -EdTechTalk: It replaces what we ued to try to do on the overhead projector to get the kids brains going

 21:48:27  PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: The story prompts sound very helpful because sometimes the hardest part it just coming up with idea of something to write about

 21:48:53  stephieand -> -EdTechTalk: You could go either way, use a picture as the prompt

 21:48:55  PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: I wonder the same thing about Twitter--making you think in 140 character msgs.

 21:49:14  stephieand -> -EdTechTalk: or use a prompt to create a picure series

 21:49:21  cheryloakes show 73 -> -EdTechTalk: Great contributions from the chat room tonight. Thanks!

 21:49:24  dgoodman -> -EdTechTalk: i think math story problems would be great with this as well

 21:49:39  WickedDecentLearning -> -EdTechTalk: @cheryloakes thanks for asking the question

 21:49:44  cheryloakes show 73 -> -EdTechTalk: great idea! math story problems, good idea

 21:49:51  cheryloakes show 73 -> -EdTechTalk: sure thing WDL, Jeff

 21:50:04  stephieand -> -EdTechTalk: books came first

 21:50:05  lloydcrew -> -EdTechTalk: Brenda Star was great!

 21:50:15  stephieand -> -EdTechTalk: and they were in French

 21:50:31  WickedDecentLearning -> -EdTechTalk: I'd recommend the "Death Note" series of GNs for mid-High school

 21:50:35  stephieand -> -EdTechTalk: If you haven't read them, they are worth it.

 21:50:46  PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: I would love to see some student examples of math story problems with the tool! Please share if you try it out.

 21:50:49  WickedDecentLearning -> -EdTechTalk: It brings up some great moral dilemmas

 21:50:51  stephieand -> -EdTechTalk: Saw the movie. Very good. It is now coming out in English

 21:52:06  stephieand -> -EdTechTalk: Another good booth that is half graphic and half written is called "the Number Devil"

 21:52:16  stephieand -> -EdTechTalk: that would be book. not booth

I listened to the podcast last night and immediately came in and got to work. In about three minutes I made an example one and printed it out to hand out at a staff meeting. They seemed to like it, I have even had a few who have used it today. That inlcudes me, I have had my kids play with it for about ten minutes today, getting used to how to work it. I was wondering if there is any way to embed it inot a page or save it as a pdf so that we can put it on our site or blog. Is there?
