Teachers Teaching Teachers #93 - Open Curriculum Planning - 02.27.08

Imagine, if you would, your department meeting webcast live every month or so. At it's core, that's what we aim for at Teachers Teaching Teachers, and there's more.
In this podcast, we go back to the basics, back to the making public our private curriculum discussions. Five National Writing Project teachers and two guests joined together to check what our students were doing and what we were thinking. We work together with a group of sites:

Youth Voices social network of 9th - 12 grade bloggers

Personal Learning Space - social network of 6th - 8th grade bloggers

Elggplans Wikispace - a wiki where we gather collaborative plans

Youthwiki Wikispace- a wiki for youths to share multimedia in galleries of work

Youth Bridges - youth podcasting network

Youth Twitter - a safe, twitter-like blogging network for students

The curriculum we build together is beginning to be gathered together in places like these:

10 self 10 world questions

12 steps to a post with image, comments, and reflection

Be a blogger - Self Assessment Guide

Be a blogger! - Hypertext version

On this podcast Paul Allison and Susan Ettenheim, from New York City were joined by:

Chris Sloan, Salt Lake City, Utah

Bill O'Neal, Trenton, New Jersey

Lynne Culp, Los Angeles, California

Mike Sansone, Iowa

Jim Sigler, Missouri

Enjoy!
Teachers Teaching Teachers #81 - Looking for the Passions and Keeping the Faith

The week before Thanksgiving, many National Writing Project (NWP) teachers participated in the NWP's Annual Meeting.
Several presenters at the 2007 Annual Meeting joined us for a live webcast on Wednesday, November 28th. This is an edited podcast of that conversation with these teachers:

Cynthia Calvert, Alcorn Writing Project

Jason Shiroff, Denver Writing Project

Lynne Culp, UCLA Writing Project

Kevin Hodgson, Western Massachusetts Writing Project

Peter Kittle, Northern California Writing Project (invited)

Christina Cantrill, NWP Program Associate in Technology

We asked pairs of teachers who presented at the NWP Annual meeting to continue their dialogue on this webcast. We focused on their collaboration before, during, and perhaps after their face-to-face presentation. Find out what their conversations and questions are now.

The theme of the webcast was about how moments where teachers have the opportunity to gather and share practices, such as the NWP's Annual Meeting, are important points along the continuum of on-going conversations and sometimes even collaborations which begin long before the "events" and which often last long after.

We asked our guests to tell us what they learned from planning and presenting together -- both from each other as well as the extended network -- for their Writing Project sites as well as their classrooms.

Teachers Teaching Teachers #74 - From Big Ideas to the Nitty-Gritty

Early in this podcast we were joined by Sheryl Nusbaum-Beach to share with us some of the big ideas and vision behind the K-12 Online Conference 2007:

Sheryl Nusbaum-Beach, a 20-year educator, has been a classroom teacher, charter school principal, district administrator, and digital learning consultant. She currently serves as an adjunct faculty member teaching graduate and undergraduate preservice teachers at The College of William and Mary (Virginia, USA), where she is also completing her doctorate in educational planning, policy and leadership. In addition, Sheryl is co-leading a statewide 21st Century Skills initiative in the state of Alabama, funded by a major grant from the Microsoft Partners in Learning program. Sheryl blogs at (http://21stcenturylearning.typepad.com/blog/).

K12 Online Conference 2007 | About

In the second half of we get into the nitty-gritty of joining the Personal Learning Space (and Youth Voices)with teachers from four different corners of the United States: Lynne Culp from Los Angeles, Kevin Sandridge from Florida, Donna Bragg from Pennsylvania, and Woody Woodgate from Alaska.
Paul Allison, Lee Baber, and Susan Ettenheim had a few ideas as well.

On this webcast, we were joined for the first time by Woody Woodgate, an educator from a small town in Alaska. Also joining us were three teachers from California, from north to south: Gail Desler, Matt Makoweski, and Lynne Culp. Moving across the country, we were also joined by Chris Sloan in Utah, Kevin Sandridge in Florida. Lee Baber from Virginia also joined Paul Allison and Susan Ettenheim in New York. What did we talk about? Well, we had another planning meeting around this medley of sites:

YouthVoices.net (grades 9 - 12)

PersonalLearningSpace.com (grades 4 - 8)

elggplans.wikispaces.com (common planning)

youthwiki.wikispaces.com (student galleries of video, images and multimedia)

YouthBridges.net (webcasting home & podcasting network)

This week we plan to continue the conversation.
