Conversations will be a show inviting people in to converse on various topics relating to education in the 21st century. Some topics to be discussed are extrinsic vs. intrinsic motivation, what is a tech rich classroom, setting up social networks for kids, the importance or lack of importance of social networking for administrators.

What is EdTechTalk? Why do you participate?

To help create EdTechTalk Introduction/Orientation materials, we'd like to ask all those who
participate in ETT (in whatever way) to answer these questions.

What is EdTechTalk?
Why do you Particpate?
What have been your favorite ETT moments?

In our "commitment to ambiguity", we are using a variety of tools to

Making ETT more accessible to newbies

First, there was some question about what is our vision, I threw these out, but you may have thoughts (multiple) of your own:

A vision of working collaborativly to discuss technology use in education, with an emphasis on open source, collaboration, and keeping it real

Some agreed actions I heard were:

Improve players (DAVE), do an openhouse show (SHOW HOSTS, we will at It's E!), tree the front page (DAVE), have a matching service for newbies (ME this summer), share this network when we do PD ourselves (ALL OF US)

Is this WorldBridg-ey?

Hey all, a new blogazine about edublogs is coming. They want interviews. I've volunteered to help. Any issues with doing them in Sandbox, and cross posting to the magazine? I figure it'll help edublogs, and help get the word out about WorldBridges too.

EdTechTalk Management Structure

How can EdTechTalk develop a management structure that
   a) distributes the workload of keeping the site and community functioning
   b) avoids long-term dependency on any individual or group
   and
    c) maintains EdTechTalkyness

Setting up a more coherent tagging system

Hey folks... was just thinking that as the community grows we might want to add another category system to enforce a little more consistency in the tagging. This wouldn't take away the possibility for free tagging... just another drop down menu like the one we have for 'shows' right now.

Some suggestions for possible tags

VLEs, interviews, k12, linux, cool school tool,

something like this... maybe a set of checkboxes... just to give a little more coordination. Then we could highlight a given tag on a given day for instance.

Hosting of WebCast Community

I am preparing to build a place to start the EdTechTalkK12 home. Anne Leftwich and I are looking at hosting a weekly (?) webcast that focuses more on K12 classroom practices.

I can build a drupal on my Bluehost account or should I build one on the WB server. I want to be as connected as possible to the WB/ETT community but don't want to tax resources, I have appropriate alternatives.

Jeff, when I asked before you said you were really neutral. If you are still really neutral, then I am thinking about building something that is a component of the WB/ETT world.

Doctoral Dissertation and WebQuests

Hi Bloggers, Wiki writers, WebQuesters, and online learners,
I am currently a doctoral student at the University of Phoenix online program in education, leadership, curriculum, and instruction. As much as I love researching and writing papers, I have to come up with a problem statement for my dissertation. I am interested in online learning, WebQuests, and ways of integrating technology into the EFL/ESL classroom. My EFL high school students are not motivated to learn in the classroom because they learn English from TV, the Internet, and through music.

I am also interested in coaching and relationship education as a way to improve learning. The WebQuest seems to have everything I am interested in: teamwork and social skills, higher order critical thinking skills, and learning by means of technology. But, I can't come up with a research question/problem.

Dear Colleagues:

During my 15 years working in technology management in K-12 public education and at the community college level I have frequently had to select technology products for purchase. In order to find the best one, I'd post a bunch of emails to various edtech lists, call my friends, read the trade journals or attend conferences. I also noticed a lot of similar inquiries from my colleagues at other institutions who were in the same boat.

Being a geek, it bothered me that we were all spending an incredible amount of time gathering feedback on these various products and services. Frequently we were looking at the same sorts of products, but we didn't connect until after we'd already made individual decisions.

CMS course

I really enjoy listening to your edtechtalk shows and want to start using some of this "stuff" in the high school I teach at, but need more training on web 2.0. On one of the recent shows, you mentioned the CMS course/academy that will be beginning sometime in July. I'm very interested in participating both for me as a teacher and as an Learning Technologies masters candidate (University of Connecticut). Unfortunately, I cannot find the link to the course. Are you still holding one?

Thanks,

Jonathan Seal

Hello. I just listened to the show with all the projects from the listeners. I'm trying to find the URL for the student created videos - Google I think was one of them. Any help?

Thanks a ton and thanks for the great shows.

Contacting EdTech talk hosts

Hi,

I'm new to your site/podcast and like it very much. I'm planning to plug your podcast on mine, called "Rod's Pulse Podcast".

http://www.rodspulsepodcast.com

I couldn't find your email addresses on your site -- perhaps you don't want to be spammed.

Do you happen to have a podcast promo for your show?

Thanks,
Rod

How do I subscribe to RSS?

This seems to be one of our most popular missing links, so re-posting this 'pre-server disaster' exchange.

I keep hearing about RSS, but when I click on the RSS links all I get is strange looking code. What am I supposed to do?

In order to subscribe to an RSS feed, you need to copy the link location of that feed and paste it into a newsreader or podcatcher type of program. For a video explanation, take a look at our first draft of How to subscribe to an RSS feed.

To optimize video clarity, we suggest viewing the video 'full screen'.

Portable MP3 Recording devices

I have recently been trying out the Philips Voice Tracer 7880 mp3 recorder and am very impressed with it.

It could be an alternative to the iRiver recorders that were so popular with podcasters before, but now do not feature line ins or work well with Macs.

Details of the machine

It has a built-in mic and speaker (good enough for playback in class) and 2 different sensitities of microphone. You can also select super-high quality, high quality, or 3 other lower audio qualities.

It records directly to mp3 and functions as a flash drive without any need to install any additional software (although it does come with this software if you want it). It also works just as well on a Mac as it does on a PC, and has a line in.
