21:21:16 tonitones: high school teacher in New Zealand -- currently doing research about mobile technologies in education for NZ ministry of education

21:21:46 Laura4Literacy: what kind of mobile technologies are you currently researching tonitones?
21:22:28 tonitones: mobile phones - particularly mobile web - and information literacy skills needed to use successfully
21:23:02 Laura4Literacy: Is the application in the classroom?  If so, at what grade level tonitones?
21:23:11 tonitones: yes classroom
21:23:20 tonitones: secondary school
21:23:36 tonitones: and our intermediate school - 11-13 year olds
21:23:55 Laura4Literacy: I can see how engaging it would be for them!
21:24:16 tonitones: scary how little info lit skills they have tho!

21:25:15 Laura4Literacy: Many people believe that just because they can get on the internet and navigate around, that kids are somehow technologically literate.  Wrong!
21:25:42 tonitones: yes!!! presented a workshop on this yesterday
21:25:59 Laura4Literacy: Students must be explicitly taught the techniques of being critical text users, especially on the net.
21:26:23 tonitones: finding that teachers think they don't need to teach the 'digital natives' these skills

21:43:41 kvance: I do know about it but have not had a chance to set it up yet, even when I do, I am not sure we will use the email accounts for the students because it is not filtered.

21:44:23 kvance: I teach at a small k-8 school in cincinnati, grade 6 language arts and computers for k-8
