(02:15:54) Andrea Z (guest-1901):

http://www.wix.com/ajcoolblue/puttingapriceonnature#

(02:16:05) Peggy George (guest-1798):

thanks Andrea!

(02:16:47) Peggy George (guest-1798):

if we can hear through his headset mic it will work I think

(02:17:00) Peggy George (guest-1798):

perfect!!

(02:17:15) monika (guest-316):

great

(02:17:26) Peggy George (guest-1798):

seeing and hearing it great

(02:17:31) Chris (guest-1907):

My role tonight is to get you ALL to publish on digitalis!!!!

(02:18:03) monika (guest-316):

very cool

(02:18:11) Chad (guest-1547):

Hi, All!

(02:18:24) Peggy George (guest-1798):

this is so cool!!

(02:18:26) Andrea Z (guest-1901):

Hi Chad!

(02:19:03) Peggy George (guest-1798):

please share the url for this project after the video is finished :-)

(02:19:33) Jack Zangerle (guest-1891):

Wow... is this location specific?

(02:19:49) Peggy George (guest-1798):

Harvard/Boston?

(02:20:31) monika (guest-316):

nice

(02:21:19) Scott Shelhart (guest-318):

Monika and Peggy - Kelsey says hello

(02:21:49) Peggy George (guest-1798):

Hi Kelsey! Love having you here with us! Are you doing something special for Digital Learning Day?

(02:22:06) monika (guest-316):

hey Kelsey

(02:22:29) gail desler (guest-1914):

Oh, my such great ideas for DLDay

(02:22:31) Scott Shelhart (guest-318):

She didn't see any reason to do anything differently -

(02:22:32) Peggy George (guest-1798):

DL Day is an incredible opportunity to make the public more aware of the importance of technology for learning

(02:22:57) Scott Shelhart (guest-318):

She was also a bit disappointed the hangout was full - gave up and went to bed to read.

(02:23:09) Peggy George (guest-1798):

but Kelsey--you have to share what you do every day to make the public more award

(02:23:17) Peggy George (guest-1798):

aware

(02:23:18) Andrea Z (guest-1901):

http://dlday2012.tumblr.com/

(02:23:44) Andrea Z (guest-1901):

Try something new!

(02:23:50) Scott Shelhart (guest-318):

She tries - takes her nook to school to show interesting things to her teachers

(02:23:57) Andrea Z (guest-1901):

http://playfreshair.com/

(02:24:16) Andrea Z (guest-1901):

Play Fresh Air is from Matt

(02:24:22) Peggy George (guest-1798):

yes! I'm interested in that! Thanks

(02:24:26) karen (guest-314):

@scott love that!

(02:24:28) Scott Shelhart (guest-318):

Corp. wants to push bring-your-own-devices.... but teachers are against it

(02:24:45) Paul Oh (guest-1903):

FYI, Matt just put out this link about his project's work: http://playfreshair.com/

(02:24:50) Peggy George (guest-1798):

that's great Scott! have her share that on the Digital Learning Day site

(02:25:36) Paul Oh (guest-1903):

Here's a link Matt sent out to the full EcoMobile project: http://ecomobile.gse.harvard.edu/video/EcoMOBILE_demo_Fall2011.mov

(02:25:37) Scott Shelhart (guest-318):

I'll send her a livebinder with some links to show and share

(02:25:50) karen (guest-314):

that's great.

(02:25:59) Peggy George (guest-1798):

wonderful Scott!! love that idea!

(02:26:03) Paul Oh (guest-1903):

ah, i see monika posted that already ... thanks, Monika!

(02:26:16) karen (guest-314):

i can use that activity in some other work i'm doing...good opportunity to be reflective about digital learning

(02:26:27) Peggy George (guest-1798):

what's their tool for their online portfolios?

(02:27:15) Peggy George (guest-1798):

that's great! before/after visions

(02:28:41) Peggy George (guest-1798):

are those students using the tlday hashtag or their own hashtag?

(02:28:50) Sheri Edwards (guest-1912):

Scott Shelhart -- can you share the livebinder link here?

(02:29:11) Chad (guest-1547):

Ooooo. I have my "
EduCon Hack Jam in a Bag" all packed.

(02:29:12) Andrea Z (guest-1901):

Peggy, our students will be using #dlday tag :)

(02:29:25) Andrea Z (guest-1901):

YAY! HACKJAMMARAMA!

(02:29:52) Scott Shelhart (guest-318):

@sheri I have not compiled the links yet. I'll post it on twitter when done. @kd9sr

(02:29:57) Peggy George (guest-1798):

why do you have to declare a school when you register for the day? that's what made me think I couldn't participate because I'm a retired educator.

(02:30:07) Andrea Z (guest-1901):

Peggy, for their online portfolios they get to choose the platform

(02:30:07) Sheri Edwards (guest-1912):

Oh thank you, Scott

(02:30:13) Peggy George (guest-1798):

fantastic Andrea!

(02:30:37) Peggy George (guest-1798):

what are they using Andrea? just curious

(02:31:05) Scott Shelhart (guest-318):

Yes, Andrea - I'm interested also. I used Google Sites for mine.

(02:31:08) Peggy George (guest-1798):

these are all such exciting ideas!!

(02:31:16) Andrea Z (guest-1901):

They are declaring their platform this week, so the results are trickling in, but last semester they chose Weebly, Wix, and Google Sites. A few did Wordpress.

(02:31:32) Sheri Edwards (guest-1912):

We use Google Apps also...

(02:31:46) Andrea Z (guest-1901):

We have them explore at least two platforms before they commit to a platform for their portfolios.

(02:32:18) monika (guest-316):

too funny

(02:32:27) Peggy George (guest-1798):

thanks! those are great sites for eportfolios!

(02:33:02) Scott Shelhart (guest-318):

@Peggy - I noticed Lake Havasu is hiring. Do you know anything about the area?

(02:33:03) Peggy George (guest-1798):

is the digital learning day just for the US?

(02:33:34) Peggy George (guest-1798):

I think of it as a day to showcase what you do all year long

(02:33:59) Scott Shelhart (guest-318):

It is a bit like earth day - a focused day of awareness

(02:34:39) Peggy George (guest-1798):

I think so Scott. I doubt people are doing technology projects just for the day if they're not already using technology.

(02:35:13) Peggy George (guest-1798):

that will be a great topic to follow on Youth Voices :-) use of mobile devices in school :-)

(02:35:15) Andrea Z (guest-1901):

On this issue of doing things all year long: we'd love to have anyone tonight submit a little story to our Dlday Tumblr: dlday2012.tumblr.com

(02:35:19) Peggy George (guest-1798):

from the student perspective

(02:35:27) monika (guest-316):

the day that could be..

(02:36:22) Peggy George (guest-1798):

Lake Havasu is one of the hottest places in AZ!!!

(02:37:19) Scott Shelhart (guest-318):

Hmm. I'll have to look at that a bit closer.

(02:37:31) Peggy George (guest-1798):

but this day could be a celebration of digital life :-)

(02:37:56) Peggy George (guest-1798):

I think it's a great idea! Legislators and the public need to become more aware of how technology enhances learning

(02:38:59) Peggy George (guest-1798):

there are lots of places where it isn't that seamless (sadly)

(02:39:57) Peggy George (guest-1798):

that's a great idea!! it reminds me of something we do in AZ called "Principal for a Day" where a businessman spends a day shadowing a principal. Incredible learning for the businessman. :-)

(02:40:14) Peggy George (guest-1798):

funny!

(02:40:14) monika (guest-316):

who's this guy?

(02:40:28) Andrea Z (guest-1901):

That is Tom Fox: he's at Chico

(02:40:34) monika (guest-316):

thanks

(02:40:45) Scott Shelhart (guest-318):

https://plus.google.com/105544518531949471491/posts

(02:41:01) Andrea Z (guest-1901):

I am a huge fan of Tom Fox

(02:41:11) Chris (guest-1907):

I also don't think people know how much important work is happening in the classroom too. All the innovations!

(02:42:20) Peggy George (guest-1798):

I really agree with these points!!! TTT doesn't represent the majority of teachers but we hope they will begin to do more of this kind of thing.

(02:43:29) Peggy George (guest-1798):

I love your passion about this!! I just want to say "AMEN" :-)

(02:43:55) Sheri Edwards (guest-1912):

I totally identify with her comment. I'm so glad she keeps going; it's not easy.

(02:44:08) Peggy George (guest-1798):

those are often the mentor teachers for the student teachers

(02:45:59) Sheri Edwards (guest-1912):

If your only tech is one iPad in the classroom, what woud you do?

(02:46:08) Andrea Z (guest-1901):

I love Katie's post...

(02:47:10) monika (guest-316):

exactly

(02:47:12) Peggy George (guest-1798):

@Sheri-use it as your tool for capturing student projects/observations of their learning

(02:47:31) Andrea Z (guest-1901):

When digital learning goes wrong

(02:48:10) Peggy George (guest-1798):

just "showcase" how you use your ipad during a school day normally :-)

(02:48:20) Sheri Edwards (guest-1912):

All my staff have iPads, so one in each classroom. That's an idea, Peggy, I think we could do.

(02:48:46) Jack Zangerle (guest-1891):

An apple tv connected to your projector can be a great way to extend one ipad

(02:49:04) Peggy George (guest-1798):

do we really want to be judgmental re the sharing on this day to say that some projects/ideas are ok to share and others aren't? That worries me

(02:49:35) Sheri Edwards (guest-1912):

apple tv can connect to the projector? Wow...

(02:50:09) Peggy George (guest-1798):

yes Sheri! that's a great way to use it like a notebook or "document camera"

(02:50:12) Jack Zangerle (guest-1891):

yeah it lets you "mirror" the entire ipad to the screen... cool for some of the ipad specific apps

(02:51:03) Sheri Edwards (guest-1912):

I'm going to need to figure that out!

(02:51:18) Peggy George (guest-1798):

there's a great app called Splashtop that you can use to access anything on your computer remotely to share on your iPad

(02:51:26) Scott Shelhart (guest-318):

D2L and the "walled garden" approach is used at my college. I'm not a fan.

(02:51:28) Andrea Z (guest-1901):

I don't think it is about not sharing various practices as much as honoring that these practices may leave those behind that do not have such saturated technology access

(02:51:30) Peggy George (guest-1798):

and then project it :-)

(02:51:47) Andrea Z (guest-1901):

Because it isn't about the tool, but the way the tool enhances student learning and actually empowering learners

(02:52:13) Peggy George (guest-1798):

I'm thinking that by everyone sharing on this day some of the teachers and administrators will see that there are some better ways to use technology :-)

(02:52:16) Sheri Edwards (guest-1912):

Do any of you know http://www.goorulearning.org/

(02:52:30) Peggy George (guest-1798):

yes Sheri! awesome site!

(02:52:41) Sheri Edwards (guest-1912):

math/science lessons videos etc tied to standards

(02:52:52) Peggy George (guest-1798):

are you using it Sheri?

(02:53:02) Tom Fox (guest-1904):

I got another meeting at 7, believe or not. So I gotta go. Thanks everyone for the great conversation.

(02:53:03) Sheri Edwards (guest-1912):

a Google 20% time project

(02:53:14) Chad (guest-1547):

My experience with augmented reality is Skyping with Paul Oh.

(02:53:23) Andrea Z (guest-1901):

Bye Tom!

(02:53:38) Sheri Edwards (guest-1912):

Yes. We're designing a project where students choose a focus of interest to them (and others)

(02:53:38) monika (guest-316):

nice chad..daring

(02:53:41) Scott Shelhart (guest-318):

Thanks Tom

(02:53:57) Peggy George (guest-1798):

it's mostly math/science isn't it?

(02:54:14) Peggy George (guest-1798):

gooru?

(02:54:30) Peggy George (guest-1798):

that's funny @Chad!

(02:54:49) Sheri Edwards (guest-1912):

Yes, but you can create your own units by copying / adding resources. As a writing teacher, I'm using it for content to write about!

(02:55:12) Peggy George (guest-1798):

yes! it's not the technology, it's the people!

(02:55:19) Sheri Edwards (guest-1912):

The science teacher and I are collaborating for integrated projects.

(02:55:34) Peggy George (guest-1798):

@Sheri I love that idea!

(02:55:49) Jack Zangerle (guest-1891):

Does gooru let kids share resources between them and collaborate?

(02:56:06) Scott Shelhart (guest-318):

Tech makes good students and good teachers better.... Technology does mot make an ineffective teacher good.

(02:56:30) Sheri Edwards (guest-1912):

Yes. It is in beta. There are connections and we are still figuring it out. They can gather their own resources for their projects.

(02:56:37) Rehab Rajab (guest-1911):

@Scott couldn't agree more

(02:56:44) Peggy George (guest-1798):

I think it's teachers that create the account on the site

(02:56:54) Chad (guest-1547):

"It will eventually get into K12," should be someone's motto.

(02:56:55) Sheri Edwards (guest-1912):

It integrates with Google Apps. The kids sign in to our kid site and can go right to gooru from there.

(02:57:22) Peggy George (guest-1798):

but are the kids adding to the site or just accessing it?

(02:57:34) Chad (guest-1547):

Paul, are you broadcasting any from EduCon?

(02:57:46) monika (guest-316):

thanks guys

(02:57:47) Sheri Edwards (guest-1912):

The kids can add to their "collections"

(02:57:49) Peggy George (guest-1798):

great question Chad!!!

(02:58:07) Peggy George (guest-1798):

Detox has special meaning to them :-)

(02:58:18) Peggy George (guest-1798):

thanks Sheri!

(02:58:33) Scott Shelhart (guest-318):

Good to meet some new folks tonight.

(02:58:39) Chad (guest-1547):

Look for NWP folk at EduCon!

(02:58:43) Sheri Edwards (guest-1912):

Yes. You're welcome. Thanks for all the infol

Good evening

(01:53:01) Chad Sansing (guest-2126):

Howdy, All -

(01:54:15) Scott Shelhart (guest-2125):

Hi Chad

(01:55:16) Chad Sansing (guest-2126):

Hi, Scott!

(02:01:44) Paul Allison:

Chad... there's room for you.

(02:19:05) Peggy George (guest-1798):

Hi everyone

(02:20:08) Peggy George (guest-1798):

Just came from the most incredible presentation by Cable Green from Creative Commons on Creative Commons and open source policies with Steve Hargadon. Be sure to listen to it once it's posted. http://futureofeducation.com

(02:23:18) Peggy George (guest-1798):

is Kelsey with you Scott?

(02:23:52) Scott Shelhart (guest-2125):

Yes Peggy, Kelsey is in the hangout.

(02:24:05) Peggy George (guest-1798):

great!

(02:24:11) Scott Shelhart (guest-2125):

She has her own G+ account now.

(02:24:20) Peggy George (guest-1798):

awesome :-)

(02:28:00) Peggy George (guest-1798):

I lost my stream and didn't hear the response to Kelsey's comment

(02:29:57) Scott Shelhart (guest-2125):

Hangout seems choppy tonight. Hopefully the recording will be intact

(02:30:20) Peggy George (guest-1798):

stream keeps dropping for me

(02:30:55) Scott Shelhart (guest-2125):

Can you join the hangout with your ipad

(02:31:08) Peggy George (guest-1798):

no ipad just iphone

(02:31:35) Peggy George (guest-1798):

video just keeps spinning

(02:31:43) Scott Shelhart (guest-2125):

hmmm if you have a front facing camera you can join

(02:32:23) Peggy George (guest-1798):

still on the wireless for the computer I'm using with a direct ethernet connection so I'll have the same problem

(02:32:41) Peggy George (guest-1798):

video back for now...

(02:35:30) Peggy George (guest-1798):

you have to feel safe to share your feelings openly

(02:37:46) Scott Shelhart (guest-2125):

Kelsey Shelhart: yes you do, and i think that if you don't feel secure doing that, i think that you would have problems opening up and speaking what your thinking

(02:38:25) Peggy George (guest-1798):

I agree Kelsey

(02:39:19) Peggy George (guest-1798):

is that hiding behind anonymity?

(02:40:20) guest-2128:

(02:40:24) Peggy George (guest-1798):

self conscious about doing it with other people around but not self conscious about posting it online??

(02:41:38) Peggy George (guest-1798):

great example--thinking out loud :-)

(02:42:35) Peggy George (guest-1798):

reminds me of people talking on their bluetooth headset in the grocery store--you think they're talking to you...

(03:00:53) Peggy George (guest-1798):

Paul are you suggesting that posting video on youthvoices detox is different than posting on youtube (walled garden sort of?)

(03:01:41) Peggy George (guest-1798):

good night everyone.

(03:01:53) Scott Shelhart (guest-2125):

goodnight
